Overview

for American Cockroach

The American cockroach is the big, reddish-brown roach that turns up in basements, drains, and sewers and sometimes wanders across a kitchen floor at night. Despite the name it is not native: it reached North America from Africa, and trade has since carried it worldwide. The largest roach living around buildings, it is mostly an outdoor and sewer-dweller that strays inside rather than a true kitchen colonizer; think of it as a damp-loving trespasser who lost the way back to the sewer.
