Topflor is an ornamental plant growth regulator used on ornamental plants grown in containers within commercial nurseries, greenhouses, and shadehouses. The active ingredient is flurpirimod at a concentration of 0.38%. It works by inhibiting gibberellin biosynthesis, which results in more compact plant growth, including features like enhanced flowering, darker leaf color, higher chlorophyll content, stronger stems, and decreased water loss. It is applied either as a foliar spray or through a drench application to the soil/medium. When using as a spray, ensure consistent coverage and avoid excessive growth due to runoff. When using as a drench, be aware that pine bark in the root media may reduce effectiveness. For application, follow the dilution rates provided in Table 1 based on the desired concentration. Handlers must wear chemical-resistant gloves made of waterproof material, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and shoe soles/socks. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or clothing. Do not apply directly to water or areas where surface water is present. In New York State, use is restricted to greenhouse applications only.
