Callisto Herbicide is a systemic preemergence and postemergence herbicide used for the control of annual broadleaf weeds. The active ingredient is Mesotrione (40.0%), which is formulated as a suspension concentrate (SC). It is primarily used in field corn, seed corn, yellow popcorn, sweet corn, and other listed crops. The product works through selective contact and residual control; weeds absorb the herbicide through the soil during emergence. For preemergence applications, it is recommended to ensure an activating rain (0.25 inches) occurs within 7-10 days after application. When used postemergence, it is absorbed through the leaves and/or emerging weeds. Users should be aware that Callisto is not effective for controlling most grass weeds. To manage herbicide resistance, users should follow integrated weed management practices, such as crop rotation and using different modes of action. Handling requires specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes plus socks, and chemical-resistant gloves. Applicators must follow Worker Protection Standard (WPS) requirements. Avoid application when rainfall is forecasted within 48 hours to prevent surface water contamination, and do not apply during temperature inversions.
