Basagran 5L is a postemergence herbicide containing 53% sodium salt of benzonaton. It is used to control a wide variety of broadleaf weeds and sedges in crops such as alfalfa (for seed production), beans, clover, corn, peanut, peas, peppermint, rice, sorghum, soybean, and spearmint. The product works by inhibiting photosynthesis (PS II). Application rates vary depending on the target weed and crop, typically ranging from 0.8 to 1.6 pints per acre. Users should note that Basagran 5L does not control grasses. When applying, ensure the spray drift is managed to avoid non-target areas, especially sensitive crops like cucurbits or sunflower. Handling requires specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including long-sleeved shirts, long pants, waterproof gloves, shoes plus socks, and protective eyewear. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. If contact occurs, rinse immediately with water. Always follow specific timing and weather instructions, such as avoiding application during high winds or when weeds are too large for certain rates. Always triple-rinse empty containers before disposal.
