SmartBlock is a potato sprout inhibitor and post-harvest disease suppressor designed for indoor use only. It is applied exclusively through fogging equipment. The active ingredient is 3-decen-2-one at a concentration of 7.05 lbs per gallon. This product is used in potato storage to control sprouting by destroying the growing meristem and to suppress post-harvest diseases like dry rot (Fusarium spp.) and pink rot (Phytophthora erythroseptica). For sprout control, application rates vary based on the target: non-sprouting suberized potatoes require 2.1–3.1 fl. oz. per ton, while potato sprouts (0.2 inch or below) require 2.1–3.1 fl. oz. per ton, and larger sprouts (0.2 to 0.5 inch) require up to 4.2 fl. oz. per ton. For disease suppression, the rate is 3.1 to 4.2 fl. oz. per ton. To improve potato quality, rates of 2.1 to 4.2 fl. oz. per ton can be used. Handling requires significant personal protective equipment, including long sleeve shirts, long pants, socks, chemical-resistant footwear, chemical-resistant gloves, goggles, face shield, and a NIOSH-approved respirator. Do not apply directly to water or areas where surface water is present. Do not use in combination with dimethyl naphthylate (DIMN) products. After application, do not reenter the treatment area for 24 hours unless wearing full PPE.
