COUNTER 20G SmartCartridge is a systemic insecticide and nematicide used at planting in field corn, corn grown for seed, popcorn, sweet corn, sugar beets, and grain sorghum. The active ingredient is Terbufos at 20.0% by weight. It is designed for use with a closed loading system to control a wide range of pests, including corn rootworms, wireworms, white grubs, corn flea beetles, maize billbugs, southern corn billbugs, thrips, symphylans, chinch bugs, nematodes, lesion lance, root knot, spiral stunt, stubby root, dagger cutworms, and lesser cornstalk borers. The product is highly toxic and is classified as a restricted pesticide due to acute oral, dermal, and inhalation toxicity, as well as risks to aquatic organisms and wildlife. It must be used by certified applicators. Handling requires specific personal protective equipment (PPE), including long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes plus socks, and protective eyewear. In some application scenarios, chemical-resistant gloves and respiratory protection (NIOSH-approved) may be required. Always follow specific engineering controls and safety rules to prevent exposure. The product is highly toxic to fish and wildlife; avoid application near water or in areas where runoff may occur.
